This group holds four galleries containing selected face shots of racers during the Coca-Cola Classic series. As of August 24, 2021, only the Day 1 and Day 2 shots have been uploaded.

The notes for each gallery will explain further what is up. But these images are intended to be action portraits of ski racers. The images are cropped to zero in on faces. This approach might disappoint people (especially racers) who really want to see boots and skis, but I think these are more compelling images that allow the racers' personalities to show through.

Not everyone is depicted in these galleries, for various reasons, largely depending on image quality, but also on visible racer intensity and emotion. Some racers are very stoic and impassive on course, revealing little. And others show more intensity and concentration.

The selections are also arbitrary in the sense I tried to pick the most expressive faces. That eliminated many faces hidden beneath masks, especially if goggles obscured their eyes. Since my purpose was showing faces, I decided it wouldn't be interesting to show faces that couldn't be seen. Next season, when no one is masked, we can perhaps repeat the exercise, and there can be a broader selection. So, if you were masked, please be patient. You did the right thing health-wise.

Most of these images are highly cropped, so large image displays will lose quality, despite my efforts to process the files to retain as much quality as possible. The weather for both days for the U12s and U14s was not ideal for racing or race photography. Just in case anyone is considering a purchase, I've restricted purchase options to relatively small prints and files. These would be okay 5x7s or 6x9s, and a very few could be larger, but not many. If you really, really want a larger face, email me and I can check to see what is possible.

And for Day 1 and Day 2, the weather also made it hard to crop as tightly as for races that took place in better weather. But of course, skiing is an outdoor sport, and not every race is on a sunny day. Moreover, racing in non-ideal weather (okay, bad weather) is another reason to enjoy the efforts of young athletes striving to do their best.

I decided to create these "Face" galleries because I have been posting discussions on my blog site recently about racing and racing photography. And I realized blogging about racer faces could not adequately present enough images. That's when I began reviewing many of the 112,000 race photos I took during this season.

As always, the main purpose is entertainment, not commerce. If you want to purchase, thank you, in advance (I donate all sales proceeds to the Alyeska Ski Club junior program). But if you just want to look, that's fine, too. Thanks for visiting.
