Okay. Every skier knows about "face shots." They are what happens when you ski fast in deep powder that billows up into your face (as opposed to what happens if your tips sink too far into deep powder at high speed).

These face shots are different. They are a form of ski racing portrait and are intended to depict something of the racer's personality and less of the racer's technique.

And because things happen fast on the race hill and spectators have to stand back, the intensity, concentration, and focus aren't always obvious. Until you see the photos.

For those who are choosing goggles and replacing lenses, mirrored lenses look super-cool but a transparent lens that allows eyes to show can really set one image apart from another. (For example, see the shots of Cabell H. and Austen E.) Sports and photo editors tell me they really like to see the eyes (unless, of course, they happen like the alien-insect look or think it is neat to see the reflection of hands and gates in the goggle lenses).

I hung some U19 face shots at the RTC and loaded them on this site. But now I'm trying to load face shots of all the ASC U19s this year, including both the "graduates," and those who will still be U19s next season.

These are highly cropped, and especially those taken early in the season cannot be enlarged very much. I think 8x12 is the very max, and 6x9 would be better and appear sharper. I printed the ones hung at the RTC as 8x12 dropped onto 11x14 paper, and most of the new ones will be somewhat suitable for similarly sized enlargements.

Email me if you really want something especially large; I'll see if it is doable. And be sure to email me if you were left out.

These are, as you can tell, mostly face shots. I am adding a lot of contextual shots, cropped wider (for those who like to see their feet and skis). Racers like feet and skis; parents like faces.
