This gallery holds the uploaded images from Race 1 Day 1.
Uploading for Race 1 is complete. As always, these uploads are not fully edited, especially for color balance.
My immediate priority after each day of racing is transmitting at least one and often two images to the Anchorage Daily News, with captions, suitable for publication in the print or electronic editions. Sometimes I also submit to SkiRacing.
A racer who does particularly well and who would like hometown publicity should email me the name and email address of their hometown newspaper. I might be able to find and send a suitable picture of the racer, caption, and a copy of the story and results that Alyeska Ski Club will submit to the Anchorage Daily News.
I will upload photos to the race galleries as quickly as time permits. Typically, I will finish uploading sometime late the week after racing ends. Each gallery will say whether uploading is complete.
Eventually each gallery will hold at least one photo, and often more than one, of each racer in each run. The photos will be in run order.
I usually am shooting 20 or so frames per racer per run, and will make a quick assessment after a race about which photos to up load. I shoot 5,000 or so frames per day. Curious racers can email me if they want to review additional image files that I may have been unable to upload given the press of time and other responsibilities.
I will try to upload start lists to help find racers by bib and run order. (It isn't always easy to get second-run start lists. LiveTiming usually has the second-run start lists.)
My Ski Race Photo FAQs (website banner) answer many questions that might arise, as well as many that will probably never arise.
The Ski Race Photo FAQs explain some basics about why I photograph ski racing and my goals. The FAQs discuss why there are more images of some racers than others. (Sometimes it is a matter of luck: I miss someone completely if the camera autofocus freezes or I have to change cards or batteries or the viewfinder fogs up at a crucial moment.) Sometimes it is by choice. Although I shoot a lot of frames (maybe 30) per racer per run, I try to upload only technically good images (properly focused) that also show some level of racing competency. Sometimes I show an entire sequence, when the racer is doing something particularly athletic, or when things suddenly go south.
New (May 15): I have also created a new group, containing racers' faces from all the race series for the 2020-21 season. The U12/U14 Championship faces are all loaded, in a gallery within the Racer Faces Group. I'm working now on all the FIS races.
