I didn't shoot run 2 because I had to submit photos by the ADN deadline.

Most of Ladies Race 2 run 1 was an experiment with slow shutter speeds to emphasize motion and to render the iamges more abstract and striking. I realize most racers don't want abstraction. They want to see sharp action. But there are loads of sharp photos in these galleries; the chance to try something different in race conditions was too good to pass up. I normally shoot GS at 1/2000 or 1/3200 of a second; many of these images were shot at only 1/160 and 1/200. Toward the end of the run I returned to 1/2000th.

But the experiment was largely successful, and my thanks to the racers for contributing (unknowingly) to Art.

I submitted three of the slow-shutter speed images (Stahla, Schweiger, Lukes) with captions from this run to the ADN, with suggestions how Sports could choose one. To my surprise, all three ran in the e-edition Monday morning. Lukes ran in the print edition. (The ADN messed up the caption for Lukes: I had told them she was a "first-year U16 racer" but the ADN deleted "U16" and simply said she was a "first-year racer.")
