On the Beach, Part One; Maui, 2017

November 21, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

We aren't quite done with Hawaii.  The Maui beaches aren't just sand, sun, and surf.  A variety of beasts can be found on or near the tideline.  Here are some.

Shorebirds skitter, casting long shadows in late afternoon.

Egrets stalk insect prey in shoreline plants.

Dogs walk the surf line, or dig tirelessly for the little crabs that pop in and out of holes.

Some crabs don't survive.  Nor some eels.  Nor some praying mantises. ***

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
