When you spend years biking and driving around Maui, you tend to see things up close and again and again. Nonetheless, Maui is amazing, even for someone whose eyes are pretty much locked on the road. But seen from the air, Maui is even more amazing. And things get even more amazing when the Hana and Haleakala weather forces a flight change, requiring a diversion over West Maui and Molokai. Derrick, the Blue Hawaiian pilot, has extensive experience elsewhere, but is still excited to be flying over Maui and Molokai. You can see why.
Above: Derrick flies the EcoStar past the West Maui coast, skirting the clouds that obscure Haleakala.
Molokai is a rugged jewel.
After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
