Flag 2Flag 2

Visiting the memorial for those lost in the Battleship Arizona is a moving experience.  Marines caution visitors to be respectful and quiet, but the advice is hardly needed.  People are solemn as they file from the auditorium to launches and then through the memorial.

I was attracted not only to the history and emotion of the memorial and what it represents, but also to the graphic strength of the site. The memorial is a striking structure that here frames the flag at half-mast.

 Canon 5DII, 16-35 f/4 IS lens, at 16mm, 1/500th at f/11, ISO 200.

Inside is the memorial wall listing the dead.  Fresh flowers are still offered.

The Pearl Harbor tour offers a visit to the USS Missouri.  Here is the aft 16-inch turret.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
