Atmospherics 2: More Evening Drama; April 2017

Some subjects are so richly interesting and provide, almost effortlessly, so many choices that the difficulty is deciding which images to choose to display.  This  sunset harvest was a prime example.  I just kept shooting, making little exposure and framing changes, none of which ultimately seem to have mattered.  The problem began a day later when the images were finally copied from the cameras and displayed on screen.  Here are some representative samples.

What set this yield apart from the usual "pretty sunsets" category was the Wagnerian drama that played in the sky for twenty minutes, a silent operatic set battle between sun and clouds, light and dark, day and night, good and evil.  And consistent with tragic epics, the implacable forces of darkness inevitably prevailed as the sun, epic hero that it is, sank vanquished and extinguished below the horizon.  At least in this act.

Of course the sun bounded brightly back on stage early the next morning, looking none the worse for wear.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
