Moon Shots; April 2017

April 11, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

After being thwarted the night before, it seemed unlikely heavy rain and clouds yesterday afternoon would allow good views of the full moon on its last day and night.  But in the late evening the clouds suddenly moved out, and the moon was so fully and brightly visible that it lighted the ground and cast dark shadows.  The first image depicts the moon bright and clear, sharp in the clean, freshly washed air in the late evening.  Then the moon traversed the sky so brightly we had to draw the curtains to sleep.  Early the next morning, out onto the deck for some last shots before the moon disappeared behind a dense cloud line and dropped below the horizon.  The last two shots are characteristic as the moon dodged in and out of clouds before dawn.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
