Lily; Anchorage, May 2017

This lily started out as the pure white (lily-white) center of a Mother's Day arrangement.  It was presented a day early because the lily was so remarkably fragrant, it would have been a waste to wait another day, and in any event, it would have been hopeless trying to hide it, since its fragrance would have given it away.

Fragrant to the end, it lasted a full week even though it was no longer pure white.  I finally had time to photograph it this morning, even as it declined into attractive maturity.  That would be old age in human terms. And even though the bloom was off the lily, it had great character in its decline.  Here are three images, two of them multiple-exposure focus-stacked blended images.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
