Mendenhall Scenes; Flora and Fauna at the Glacier; Juneau, July 2017

July 20, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

Two visits to Mendenhall Glacier area the same day fortuitously produced a batch of images worth sharing.  Since there are too many for one post, some today, some tomorrow.

First, a preview of tomorrow.

Ranger and bear face off.

Now back to chronological order.

The glacier's face is still receding fast, but ice and rock form a strong graphic.

Ponds reflect trees; ripples in some ponds distort; still waters in other ponds provide near-mirrors.

This porcupine is chewing through leaves far above the ground.

And this porcupine is working at ground level, using claws and orange teeth.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
