A necessary layover between flights made it possible to plan a visit to Philadelphia and the incredible Barnes's Foundation collection of Impressionist art. The visit was well worth the effort and down time. Philadelphia's downtown in warm, sunny weather is a welcoming architectural forest of interesting buildings. It might not be so welcoming on a drippy, cold day, but in weather warm enough to enjoy the top deck of a double-decker tour bus it is fun and fascinating. And the city's open spaces limit the claustrophobia you can feel in urban canyons of cities such as New York and San Francisco.
There are constant reminders of the important part(s) Philadelphia played when the nation was forming: Ben Franklin statues, Betsy Ross courtyards, Constitution Hall, and the house where Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence. Modern street scenes complete the circle, from crowds on the museum steps Rocky ran up in training to performers with drum sets or trumpets or violins, and multitudes of jersey-ed Philadelphia Eagles fans anticipating a big home game.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
