Autumn Deepens (October 2020)

Sooner or later the snow comes. It suddenly limits the palette to duller browns and tans and dark greens. Even the ochres disappear. There can be rare sunlit respites, but in general the chromatic choices are limited.  That isn't always bad.  Now the graphics and shapes are revealed in greater isolation. The snow provides them a neutral stage that promotes their subtle drama. The distraction of exuberant colors, especially those flaunted in branches and animated by wind, is gone.

There can be brief sunny respites, especially when the temperature plummets and the snow crystals are sharp and prominent. EF4A4688EF4A4688 EF4A4697EF4A4697 EF4A4703EF4A4703

But any vegetation is fighting a losing battle.

The transition is in progress.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
