Flashback: Maui (November 2019)

December 29, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

As we last left it, Winter was here in all but name. And now, of course, it is here in both Name and Reality. Snow has settled in and the days are getting longer (although not noticeably yet since it is still dark during the first and probably second cup of coffee and it is again dark by the time office workers - those still left - hit the road and the lifts shut down and Newshour comes on). Already the first Winter monsoon has hit and wind and rain took care of the snow on the lower trees.  It is technically still 2020, a year of harsh medical and social and political lessons that we may (or may not) learn from to avoid or survive future disasters.

Ignoring 2020 for good reason and Winter for a bit, now is a good time to engage in a little calendar magic: we are going to think about Maui as it was in November 2019, before the world went off the rails.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
