Apart from - or perhaps fundamentally inspired by - the ambient artistry of the mosaics and tiles, Lisbon is awash in fascinating modern neighborhood art, some commissioned and some piratical. We took a street art tour, careening around in a tuk-tuk driven by our guide (herself a sculptor) through narrow passages between paid installations and pop-up scenes. The tour was fun and educational, and the tuk-tuk negotiated streets and alleys impassable to anything larger.

The commissioned art is often big. Really big.
Reclaimed and repurposed junk can make fine art.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
