In Southeast Alaska, the charismatic and easily accessible species are humpbacks, orcas, eagles, and bears. But other interesting beasts turn up regularly, usually not with drama.
This Auke Bay harbor seal was cruising around:

Sea lions, like sumo wrestlers with teeth, lounge on their private swimming float, and sometimes dive in for a swim.

And this solo (or maybe not solo, if the mother was nearby, unseen) yearling cub on the shoulder of a well-traveled road didn't have the maturity or size to be charismatic yet. It is a black bear despite its brown coloring. The camera guy was only about 40 or maybe 50 feet from the cub, much too close, especially if a mother was nearby. The cub went back into the brush. No mother appeared. And all the cars that had stopped drove on. Probably the camera guy was in one of them.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
