Here are the four images I sent the ADN February 18, cut the cutlines and explanations:

9334 depicts Pierre-Samuel Stiassny, who won both runs in each of the two two-run Alyeska Cup giant slaloms Friday (i.e., fastest in each of the four run, winning both races). He also won the first slalom Saturday and was second in the second slalom. Thus, won three out of four races, with several dominating performances.

The cutline:

Undeterred by a snow shower, Arctic Valley Ski Team U14 Pierre-Samuel Stiassny dives into the final gates on Alyeska’s lower Race Trial Friday in the first of two Alyeska Cup giant slaloms. He won both runs in both U14 giant slaloms, and on Saturday won the first Alyeska Cup U14 slalom and finished second in the second slalom, behind U14 teammate Gus Westerlund.




9497 bib 25 depicts Elizabeth Hutcheson, who won both Saturday races and one of the U14 Friday races.

The cutline:

Alyeska Ski Club’s Elizabeth Hutcheson, here threading through a hairpin gate combination, won both runs in both U14 Alaska Cup slaloms Saturday on the Tanaka Hill. She also won the first of two U14 Alyeska Cup giant slaloms Friday on Alyeska’s Race Trail, but did not finish the second giant slalom.




1126 depicts Samantha Langlie, who won both U12 giant slaloms Friday and was second in one of the Saturday U12 races. Here she enters the finish area, just short of the finish line in a snow squall.

The cutline

Big snow flakes nearly obscure Samantha Langlie as she nears the blue-dyed finish line in her second run in the first of two Alyeska Cup giant slaloms Friday, on Alyeska’s Race Trail course. An Alyeska Ski Club U12, Langlie won both U12 giant slaloms Friday despite the snow shower and was second in one of two Alyeska Cup slaloms Saturday.

7959-2 depicts Finn Sundberg, the U12 class winner in both Friday races and in both Saturday races.

The cutline:

Finn Sundberg, a U12 skiing for HART, attacks a hairpin combination in the first Alyeska Cup slalom Saturday on the Tanaka Hill. He won both U12 slaloms by winning both runs in each of the two-run races. He finished fourth overall, behind three U14s in the first slalom, and also won both Alyeska Cup U12 giant slaloms Friday.
