Big snow flakes interfere with race photography, and can throw off the camera's autofocus. Snow generally also reduces the amount of light reaching the camera's sensor, causing all kinds of quality issues.
As a result, processing the men's first race took huge amounts of time, delaying processing and uploading to the gallery.
Something else really affected the time required: there was a lot of good skiing and I was reluctant to limit the gallery to just one or two photos per racer per run.
As a result, the hour and a half of on-hill photography of the men required about 8-9 hours of serious computer time.
My incentives include being able to show racers and families what went on on the hill, and to illustrate good skiing. I enjoy that, but there are several other incentives: getting occasional thanks, occasional photo sales that benefit the club financially, and some idea how many people are visiting the photo galleries. My website administrator counts, or tries to count, the visits. Absent the incentives of sales, appreciation, and website visits, I'll have to adjust priorities and greatly reduce the volume, both shooting and processing.
