Textures and Shapes; April 2017

One of photography's pleasures is taking a photo and then finding later that the image successfully preserved some particularly interesting detail.  This is often so when shooting with a macro lens that allows closeup details the naked eye can't see. Even when you trigger the shutter hoping to capture that detail, you never know until later, and sometimes the detail is preserved fortuitously.  The arty word is "serendipity," but for most of us the operative word is "luck."  Luck plays a role more often than we would like to admit.

These photos depict textures and shapes on display at a farmer's market, on a public street, and in a private garden.  Sure, the intention was there, but luck played a part in harvesting these shots.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
