Leo Four (Bed Dog); Anchorage (2003-2016)

Leo was particularly happy in bed, especially a human bed.  He had his own dog beds wherever he was, but unless it was a hot day, he preferred being in our bed when we were there too.   In his last year, he was unable to reliably climb up into our bed, and eventually unable to get down.  Still about 70 pounds, he was a handful to lift up and down.  But he was grateful and content once installed.

Except for one time, he never climbed on other furniture (chairs, couches).  That one time, we were in the TV area and hadn't moved his bed pad nearby.  He walked over to a couch close to where we would normally have moved his dog bed while we were watching TV.  He looked at the couch, looked back at us, and then simply climbed onto the couch.  We were only a few feet away.  We took this as a message: "You need to move my bed if you are going to watch TV."  He had never done that before (he was then 12) and he never did it again.  Of course after that we were careful to move his bed pad when we were in the TV area.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
