Moose, Part Four (Mother's Day); Anchorage, May 2017

May 14, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

I had hoped to moove on from the Moose Family by now.  But because it's Mother's Day and because Moose Mom was being so solicitous of the twins early yesterday morning, it is impossible to avoid this last (I hope) moose post.

Mom was alternately nuzzling, reassuring, and feeding the twins.  She was also literally butting them, maybe to force them to be more physical to improve agility, aggression (are the twins male?), and mobility, perhaps teaching defensive skills.  If that was her message, it seemed to work: The twins began head-butting and shoulder-bumping and frisking around, almost moonwalking, but they aren't yet quite stable enough to prance and hop.

Mom nuzzles.

Mom reassures.

Mom butts.

It works.

Moonwalking twin backs up.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
