On an overcast and sometimes rainy day, Lynn Canal from Skagway to Juneau doesn't seem at first glance as striking as it is in brilliant sun. First appearances can deceive. These images depict the inherent drama of being literally in the middle: in the middle vertically between sea water and a sky full of clouds, and in the middle of the channel, between headlands and islands, mountains and reefs. The effect for travelers not discouraged by clouds, mist, and a few showers can be more striking than traveling under bright sun and blue sky.
I converted two of these images to B&W in Silver Efex Pro II.
After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
