Big Day Part 1; Auke Bay, July 31, 2017

August 01, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

This isn't a Deep Thoughts post.  It is more a testament to good luck.  Sometimes things fall into place.  All day long on July 31 quality image opportunities sprang up.  It was a Big Day photographically, starting with the kingfisher.

I'll post more Big Day images tomorrow, including more of Nicki, the cinnamon-colored black bear.

Nicki was actually late afternoon, and the day wasn't even over.

The kingfisher started it all off, diving into the water behind a dock, where I couldn't get a shot.  But then it surfaced, with a fish.

Minutes later, the hummingbird refueled on the fireweed.

Gulls of all sorts all day.

We have crows.  This one is launching from the lawn.

And eagles. Up behind the house.

Nicki drinking under the bridge.  More of her, and from the Big Day, tomorrow.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
