Sitka, especially on a sunny day, is both beautiful and charming. It is also a serious fishing port, with seiners, trollers, longliners, gillnetters, and tenders constantly moving in and out of the four major harbors, refueling, and navigating through the maze of islands to and from the grounds. Even a gray day is interesting; there never seems a moment when at least one boat is not in immediate view.
Here are some random Sitka images.
This is Pearl, a shy octopus in the hatchery's Science Center. She is a Giant Pacific Octopus, but is only about four inches across when she tucks in her legs.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
