One of Maui's attractions, sometimes overshadowed by other striking visual scenes, is its range of colors. Varying in both hue and saturation and spanning gradations from wildly dramatic to placidly subtle, its colors reflect the essence of Maui's existence: rock surrounded by sky and ocean.
Here are some samples.
Rock - whether stark white or rich black tinged with red - reveals Maui's volcanic origin.

The drama usually increases late in the day. Above the cloud line, the sun is bright yellow and turns the sky orange; nearing the horizon it turns red-orange and reddens the sky; below the horizon, it still lights the clouds from below, turning their edges rose, pink, and peach.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
