Even a quick visit to Denali Park is always a good idea. The scenery is inspiring and worth the trip, even if the animals are hiding and The Mountain is obscured.
Denali's Big Five are moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves, and bears. Apart from the wolves, always rare, the animals weren't hiding during this brief visit. This first post depicts a few Denali residents: moose, a band of Dall Sheep, and - wait for it - a squirrel. OK, squirrels aren't on the Big Five list. But this one appeared and seemed to want his/her picture taken while we were watching two low-energy bears. Done.
It's a favorable augury when a mother and calf appear right next to the bus parking lot even before a tour begins. The guide thought the mother knew there would be few bears so close to the Park visitors' center and that her calf was safer near buses than on the open tundra.

Eyes closed and ignoring two bears several hundred yards away, a ground squirrel absorbs a few weak rays of sun.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
