Maui - Flora (November 2019)

One of Maui's great pleasures is the flora.  It is exuberant. It is abundant. And it is everywhere, always somewhere in the field of vision. Maui has showy blooms, of course, and they are the flashy chorus line of Maui flora, but they aren't the intended subject here.  The "simple" greenery more than holds it own.  Its Pantone chart of greens entertains, sometimes mellow and reassuring, sometimes acerbic and acid and provoking. Even faded bark, seemingly ancient and wise, is exotic. The greenery, in isolation or in situ, seems collectively as grateful and happy to be alive and thriving in Maui as the birds obviously (to anthropomorphising human eyes) and less silently are.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
