Big Moose. Little Moose. Very Testy Moose, Again. (Anchorage June 2020)

The very testy moose who starred in the last post finally left the yard. She returned two hours later, in mid-evening, and folded up next to the newspaper bin, about ten feet from the house. She was calmer than before. She eventually got back to her feet and pushed over the newspaper bin before browsing on. It wasn't obvious whether she pushed it over out of curiosity or because she had an itch (she had previously tried to scratch her head with a hoof), and despite her earlier orneriness, she did not seem motivated by passion or malice.

To give an idea of scale and proximity, the lens was only at 135mm for this shot, and the image is almost full frame, i.e., barely cropped.  She looks like a big, hairy dog, curled up for a nap. But even curled up, the distance from her left shoulder to her tail is at least six feet.

Testy moose back on her feet. Focal length was 100mm (as close as this lens goes), and barely cropped. Newspaper bin is nearby. This was not a typical expression.

Tipping.                                                                             Tipped.

These last two images were taken at 400mm, but are completely uncropped.  These leaves are nine feet off the ground.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
