The continuing vitality of Rockport and Gloucester, now that granite is no longer harvested here, lies in what originally made these towns commercially successful: water and fish.  Both remain important because both are used commercially and recreationally.

This foreshortened view of the Straitsmouth lighthouse doesn't reveal that it is on an island behind the headland.

Lobster pots are stacked on the granite pier behind the red shed on Bearskin Neck.  The shed was known as Motif No. 1 because it was the main subject for painting lessons in Rockport.  It is allegedly the most-photographed and painted building in Rockport.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
