Fluid Dynamics, Pacific Style, Part Three; Maui 2019

The crash of big waves breaking on shore demonstrates one level of ocean energy, the relentless mega-power of rank after rank of green water mountains.

But the waves' terminal surges and final blows against the lava heads reveal a different and more subtle fluid dynamic.  Here, especially at low shutter speeds, fluid grace and energetic variety characterize the ocean's efforts to  overcome or negotiate the obdurate lava.  The resulting images of localized of fluid dynamics both abstract and define this shore-line drama.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
