Glacier Bay National Park; August 2016

We took the Glacier Bay cruise in August 2016.  The weather couldn't have been any better for good images from the moment we boarded the tour boat.  Sun, dramatic mist and clouds, smooth water, and some cooperative animals rewarded everyone on board. (Although it helped to have a long lens and an ultrawide lens.)

Morning mists in the inlet cleared, but reappeared.

Sealions have their own social agendas and are not interested in cruise boats.

This goat, resplendent in a halo of buffed-out goat hair, seemed to be posing, possibly modeling the Fall collection.

Fog and mist moved in and out.

The otter lunched on, not bothered by wake, but semi-curious.

Margerie Glacier calved, as if on cue for us, not long after a cruise ship departed after it drifted uncomfortably close to the glacier’s face.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
