Quick Stop, Juneau (Part One); July 2019

July 19, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

It was only a quick stop in Juneau, but still visually enriching.  There was barely time for a moving memorial gathering for a popular classmate, Mendenhall Glacier, fireworks, the tail end of Juneau's Fourth of July parade, and Skip Wallen's waterfront humpback whale.  Haze from northern fires softened the sun.

The haze is obvious in the approach over Auke Bay and the airport flyby before landing to the north (actually the northwest). And a first: very distorting plexi layers in the A seat window degraded the airborne images.

After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images.  They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation.  I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill.  Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking.  I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
