Rippling Raptor; Anchorage, July 31, 2016
This is not a Photoshop filter effect. Heat from its afterburners causes this F-22 Raptor to appear to be rippling as it flies over Elmendorf AFB. I have lots of sharp images of F-22s from airshow flybys, but this was much more interesting and abstract. And it doesn't detract from the plane's power, as exemplified by the vivid red-orange of the afterburners. There is also a nice, but muted, color analogy with the cockpit canopy.
Taken with Canon 5DIII and 100-400mm IS II at 400mm; 1/2000 at f6.3; ISO 200.
After a lifetime of mainly expressing myself with words, my postings here will mainly rely on images. They will speak for themselves to some extent, but I'll usually add a few comments of explanation. I've taken photographs for decades, since the 1950's, inspired in part by my father's photographic skill. Four years of photo assignments and quality darkroom time eventually gave way to decades of casual and family picture-taking. I re-immersed myself when I left film and turned to digital.
